Energy Viewpoints

We have spent almost two weeks learning about energy resources in class.  Using your background knowledge of these resources please write a comment answering the following question.
Imagine you live in an area that has access to all eight types of energy studied in class.  If you were in charge of choosing the energy resource used by a city in the area, which energy resource would you select?  Please explain why.  In your explanation of why, include two specific pieces of evidence to support your selection and one specific piece of evidence that is an admission of a negative for this type of energy.

  1. Wind is the best energy resource to use in a town that can have any energy resource. Even though they can be loud and expensive it is still a good resource. Wind is a renewable so it will never run out and it is clean even if after it is used. The wind energy does not take lots of space so, it is a good energy resource.

  2. I think that hydropower is an excellent energy resource. This is because hydropower is renewable and hydropower is a clean type of energy resource. A disadvantage of hydropower is that it can cause floods and destroy buildings. It is easy to produce energy with hydropower and the energy from hydropower lasts for a long time.

  3. If I were to pick one of the eight enerhy resources I would pick Petrolium(oil). Why I would pick petrolium is petrolium can be easily produced and transported. The biggest reason why is petrolium can be available anywhere in the world. The main reason why I would not choose petrolium is petrolium is non-renewable.

  4. I would choose hydro-power because it is a non-pollutant and if the person likes the sound of a waterfall or a stream then the noise won't cause a disturbance. One con is that is that if a dam were to break, it may cause some damage to my home. I also choose that energy source because it is renewable and I will always have power.

  5. In my opinion the best energy source out of all that were presented I would go with is hydropower. Because there is a constant flow of water to power the generator to get power and you don’t have to pay anyone to do any work and you can get tons of energy for any city anywhere except Texas because the have no rivers/big rivers. so all the work is done for you and you don’t have to pay anyone and you get good clean energy and when the river overflows and it leaves fertile water for growing crops so its perfect.

  6. If I was in charge of picking a energy resources it would be hydropower. Hydropower can affect all the energy resources in a good and helpful way. Hydropower does not let off any gas or any bad things for the environment. It’s cheaper for the U.S. It saves us 22 billion dollars. Hydropower can be found all over, but a disadvantage is that a dam can change a river flows. That’s why I would choose hydropower for our city.

  7. If I were in charge of choosing an energy resource for a city to use, I would select Hydropower as their resource. I would choose this resource because Hydropower is smart and easy, and water will never run out. But, the fish population is impacted because of the new sudden change of river flow. Also, the use of Hydropower may reduce the quality and flow of the water. Hydropower is easy to collect, it’s clean, and renewable, and that is why I would choose Hydropower for the resource of the city.

  8. I think that the best energy resource for the area that I live in would be hydro power for many reasons. One of the reasons is that hydro power has raw materials that are easy to use get to. Another reason that I would choose hydro power as the energy resource for the place that I live in is that it doesn't pollute the environment at all. One disadvantage is that by using hydro power their is a chance that you can flood an area. Flooding an area may cause destruction to land, property, and/or structures. Overall, I think that hydro power would be the best energy resource to use for the area that I live in for many reasons.

  9. If I lived in an area that had access to all eight energy, Hydro power. Hydro power is an easy way to get electricity, One advantage of this energy is it will be constantly producing energy another advantage is it is very simple to use all you need is water and the turbines. Two disadvantages are it costs a lot of money, One other disadvantage is it will be hard to put in the turbines to make this energy

  10. If I am in charge I would pick Hydro Power. Why I would pick Hydro Power is that it can be used where in the world. Hydro Power can be a energy that can help if there is a power outage. It has many advantages and less disadvantages. Hydro Power can be used for many different things as you can see. All you need to do is realize that the world can not be left without hydro power.

  11. I would choose hydropower for my city. Hydropower uses dams, reservoirs, water wheels, and turbines to create energy. Hydropower is mainly used to create electricity. It is good because it does not pollute the air, the water, or the soil. Hydropower also is self powered. If there is a water wheel the current of the water would make the wheel spin generating energy. All though there are many advantages to this, there are some disadvantages. For example, if the city were to use a dam, in circumstances where there is a lot of rain water, the dam would cause the water to flood, which would damage the surrounding buildings. Hydropower is a very efficient way of producing and distributing energy.

  12. If I could choose any energy source for a city, I would choose hydro-power for a few reasons.
My first reason is that it is a clean energy source. It doesn't pollute and can easily be set up and used.
My second reason is that it is renewable, you can use it in any kind of river, and it can also work in some droughts.
One negative, is that the dams that are used can sometimes cause habitat destruction if flooded. I would definitely use hydro-power for my city if i had the choice.

  13. If I was in charge of choosing an energy resource, I would choose coal. Coal is found almost anywhere, but mainly in mountains. Only one pound of coal can equal one pound of electricity. That is a lot of electricity. There is a problem with it though. It will only last for 240 more years. It will run out eventually, and we will have to find a new resource in 240 years. But, it will last us a long time, so we do not need to worry.

  14. I would choose hydro-power to be a city’s main energy source for many reasons. First off, hydro-power doesn’t pollute the air. The dams won’t cost that much money, and it is unlikely to have an accident. Dams are also a very effective way of generating power and energy. It does take a little bit of water, but if water is low, it depends on precipitation to generate.

  15. If I could choose any energy source for a city in my area, I would choose Geothermal Energy. This is because you can set up a Geothermal Energy power plant anywhere, though they take up a lot of space. What happens is the power plant will take very hot water from deep in the Earths surface, the hot water turns to steam. The steam then powers a turbine that spins a generator that creates electricity. This is a simple process that is a great way to create electricity.

  16. If I could pick any resource of the resources, I would pick hydro power. The reason I would pick this because it is one of the most effective and clean energy source. It produces lots of energy and it also can be set at a lower capacity. It also causes very little habitat destruction.

  17. If I were selecting a resource to use, I would pick hydropower. I would pick this because it lets off no fumes, gases, or other pollutants. This way, the energy is good for the environment, but not necessarily safe for it. The water can sometimes overflow from rivers and reservoirs and wash away plants and buildings. Hydropower is cheap and easy to use though. It is always working, and does not need to be used at full capacity all the time. That is why I would pick hydropower.

  18. If I could choose my energy it would be coal because it is environmental friendly because they mind where they mine.

  19. I would choose the coal energy source because it is a cheaper and easy to find and use for energy production. A negitive is that it is non-renewable but it will last us for a very long time even past our lifetime.

  21. If I was incharge of chooseing what energy source I would want in my town I would choose hydropower because hydropower is used all over the world and it can power a lot of energy just by haveing a small river or creek.

  22. If I were to choose one out of eight energy resources I would choose nuclear energy. Nuclear energy provides an extremely large amount of energy. It also has backup systems and safety protocols to prevent accidents. Unfortunately nuclear energy is a non-renewable energy source, so it may not last forever.

  23. The energy resource that I would choose is Hydropower. One reason is that it is a renewable resource. another reason is hydropower does not release fumes that could possibly hurt you. Those are the reasons why I think hydropower is the best energy resource there is.
